Pre-Prep

The Pre-Prep Department of Kingshott School is housed in the Rowan Building which is a spectacular award-winning edifice. There are 9 classes housed here, three parallel classes in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2. There is a maximum of fifteen children in each class.

The children access a full curriculum, taught by experienced teachers and supported by trained Nursery Nurses and Classroom Assistants

The children study Literacy and Numeracy in their classrooms, together with Science, History and Geography topics. Computer skills are taught from Reception onwards, in the classrooms or in one of the Computer Suites in the main school. Music and PE are taught by specialist teachers throughout the Pre-prep, and French is introduced at Year 1, together with Recorder.

Mornings in the Pre-Prep are quiet, and core learning takes place at this time. By contrast the afternoons are creative and relaxed.

The staff is supported by a team of volunteer mothers and grannies, known as the Spectrum Group. They take part in role play, sew, play number and word games, paint, and generally enable the children to access a wider curriculum.

In addition to all this Ballet, Tap and Gym are available after school.

The school day is broken up with playtime on the school field if possible, on playgrounds, or on the climbing frame or in the Playhouse. We encourage them to use up their energy!

For working parents we run an After School Care facility. Up to twenty children can be accommodated. They have a snack tea, play outside if the weather permits, then come inside to play with toys and games, or just flop and watch children’s television, as they would at home.

The Pre-Prep offers a structured and caring environment, where children thrive in a warm, happy atmosphere.
